New Data on Baseline Sentencing

16 February 2015

The Council has today published updated data on baseline offence medians.

Data available on the Council’s website represent the median sentence imposed for each baseline offence for the period 2009-10 to 2013-14 - the five financial years prior to the introduction of the baseline sentencing scheme.

The new data have been calculated using the same methodology described in the Council’s Calculating the Baseline Offence Median Report.

Sentencing data received since the publication of the report have allowed the Council to calculate individual baseline medians for each of the two incest baseline offences.

The new data also take into account changes to sentences as a result of sentence appeals to 30 September 2014.

Baseline sentencing commenced in Victoria on 2 November 2014. It applies to the sentencing of the seven baseline offences committed on or after that date.

An overview of baseline sentencing is available on this website.
