This graph shows the number of people sentenced in the higher courts of Victoria from 1997-98 to 2008-09.

In 2008-09 there was a marked decline from the previous year in the number of people sentenced in the higher courts (from 2,206 to 1,953 people).

The number of people sentenced in the higher courts remained fairly stable from 2003-04 through 2007-08, following a gradual increase from 1,431 people in 1997-98 to 2,215 people in 2003-04.

Explanatory Notes

The higher courts include the Supreme Court and County Court. Higher courts data may be subject to minor revision.
