Home Detention
Home detention is a prison sentence that can be ordered to be served at home.
A maximum one year sentence is available and a conviction must be recorded.
Offenders and anyone who will be living at the house where the sentence will be served must consent to the home detention order. The offender must agree to comply with any requirements or conditions imposed.
The home detention pilot finished at the end of 2006 and the sentencing option is currently under review by the Department of Justice.
The law relating to home detention is contained in sections 18ZT-18ZZR of the Sentencing Act 1991.
