Intensive Correction Order
An Intensive Correction Order (ICO) is a prison sentence served in the community. It combines strictly supervised treatment, education and unpaid community work.
A maximum one year sentence is available and a conviction must be recorded.
There are a number of core conditions which an offender must comply with but there is also the option for the court to impose special conditions specific to the needs of the offender.
Fines and ancillary orders (such as restitution, compensation and forfeiture orders) can be made in addition to the ICO.
The law relating to ICOs is contained in sections 19-26 of the Sentencing Act 1991.
