Have You Noticed!

Have you noticed that the Sentencing Statistics section of our website contains previously unpublished data on people starting community correction orders with Corrections Victoria.

Community correction orders include intensive correction orders, community-based orders, community work permits, combined custody and treatment orders, drug treatment orders and home detention orders.

Some of the interesting facts contained within the 2006 data include:

  • In 2006, 13,465 people began a community correction order. This is over three times the number of people who commenced an imprisonment sentence (3,863).
  • The most common type of community correction order was some type of community-based order (CBO).
  • Of all people commencing a community correction order, 35% commenced a CBO for fine default.
  • 14% of community correction orders were intensive correction orders.
  • Under 1% of community correction orders commenced were drug treatment orders, home detention orders or combined custody and treatment orders.
