Homicide Sentencing
Recommendations 52 to 56 of the Victorian Law Reform Commission's Final Report on Defenses to Homicide specifically referred to the statistical and public education role of the Sentencing Advisory Council.
The Council worked with the Australian Institute of Criminology and the Victoria Police Homicide Squad to determine the feasibility of establishing a comprehensive database on homicide incidents and sentencing in Victoria over the past ten years. This database will contain information relating to the characteristics of homicide incidents, perpetrators and victims, as well as sentencing and appeal outcomes.
