Commentary
Over the last seven years, the most common community corrections order type served in Victoria has been a community based order (CBOs) with supervision, followed by a CBO for fine default and a CBO with community work only.
In December 2008 the daily average number of people per order type was as follows:
- 3,659 were serving a CBO with supervision
- 1,128 were serving a CBO for fine default
- 754 were serving an intensive correction order
- 734 were serving a CBO with community work the only requirement
- 554 were serving a community work permit
- 94 were serving some other type of order (such as a drug treatment order (55), a home detention order (36) and a combined custody and treatment order (3)).
In terms of changes in the number of people serving different order types, between January 2001 and December 2008, the average number of people serving:
- a CBO with supervisory requirements increased from 2,884 to 3,659 (up 26.9%)
- a CBO for fine default increased from 1,053 to 1,128 (up 7.1%)
- a CBO with community work only decreased from 797 to 734 (down 7.9%)
- an intensive correction order increased from 561 to 734 (up 30.8%)
