Community Corrections Order Registrations in Victoria 2000 to 2008

This page discusses the graph, Community Correction Orders Registered in Victoria by Order Type 2000 to 2008.

The data represent the number of people who commenced a community corrections order, excluding parole and interstate/Commonwealth orders.

Commentary

In 2008, 16,530 community correction orders were commenced. Of these:

  • 40.3% (6,661) were CBOs for fine default
  • 29.3% (4,850) were CBOs with supervision only
  • 12.3% (2,031) were intensive correction orders
  • 10.4% (1,721) were CBOs with community work only
  • 6.7% (1,110) were community work permits

Despite fluctuations between 2000 and 2008, the number of new community correction orders generally increased. Overall, there was a 12.7% increase in the number of orders commenced, from 14,431 in 2000 to 16,530 in 2008.

Other changes in commencements across the eight years were:

  • a 17.9% decline in CBOs with community work only
  • a 7.7% increase in the number of intensive correction orders
  • a 11.9% increase in the number of CBOs for fine default.

Explanatory Notes

Data in 2004 should be treated with caution due to a change in recording system that affected data in the October-December 2004 period.
