Two important functions of the Sentencing Advisory Council are to:
- advise the Attorney-General on sentencing issues
- conduct research and disseminate information on sentencing matters.
These two functions form the basis of our projects. Our projects arise from sentencing issues of interest to members of the judiciary and the broader community and from references from the Attorney-General.
The views of experts and the community are crucial to our research and policy advice. We routinely consult with stakeholders on our projects and often call on the broader community to have a say on sentencing issues.
Our Projects in Progress page outlines what we’re working on at the moment.
