Issues and Options Paper Examines Restitution and Compensation Orders in Victoria

13 March 2018

The Sentencing Advisory Council has today released an issues and options paper as part of its project to examine restitution and compensation orders in Victoria.

Restitution and compensation orders are currently imposed in addition to the sentence imposed on an offender.

Following a recommendation of the Victorian Law Reform Commission, the Council has been asked to advise the Attorney-General on whether restitution and compensation orders should become sentencing orders.

Restitution and Compensation Orders: Issues and Options Paper forms the basis of the Council’s consultation and community engagement.

The Council is seeking submissions and comments from stakeholders and the broader community on the questions asked in the issues and options paper.

To assist community members in sharing their views, the Council has developed additional materials, including two fact sheets and an online survey.

The deadline for submissions and the online survey is Friday 20 April 2018.
