We’ve released an update of our SACStat sentencing database.
The update provides new data for 256 offences sentenced in the Victorian higher courts (the County and Supreme Courts) over the five years to 30 June 2023.
According to the latest data:
- the most prevalent principal proven offences in the higher courts were armed robbery (620 cases), aggravated burglary (454 cases) and intentionally causing injury (367 cases)
- the offences with the longest median prison sentence imposed on the charge were murder (22.5 years), attempted murder (11.7 years) and conspire to import a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug (10.8 years).
SACStat includes all offences heard in the higher courts with at least 10 sentenced charges over the five-year period. SACStat data also accounts for appeals determined by the Court of Appeal prior to 30 June 2023.
