We’re pleased to announce the tabling of our Annual Report for the 2022-23 financial year.
The last 12 months have coincided with marked changes for the Council. We said goodbye to our founding Chair, Emeritus Professor Arie Freiberg AM, and long-standing CEO, Cynthia Marwood. Under the stewardship of our new chair and CEO, we produced six research reports, updated our suite of statistical products and engaged extensively with stakeholders and the community.
Three of our reports examined potential reforms to adjourned undertakings and sentence deferrals in Victoria. Our other three reports dealt with diverse sentencing topics: long-term sentencing trends in Victoria, aggregate prison sentences and the effect of media coverage on sentencing.
We launched a brand new version of our SACStat database of sentencing statistics. Our team overhauled SACStat entirely in house, providing new data and features and an accessible and mobile-friendly interface. We also produced six new Sentencing Snapshots and updated the webstats on our website.
We delivered two lectures, four You Be the Judge educational sessions and six sessions on how to find and use sentencing statistics. We also consulted with 40 stakeholders as part of our legal policy research.
And we hosted the inaugural national meeting of sentencing councils.
Our Annual Report 2022-2023 is available to download from our website.
