Infographics and Data Visualisations Collaboration with RMIT

The complexity of sentencing can present a barrier to community understanding, but new design and information technologies enhance our ability to effectively communicate complex ideas through data visualisation and educational graphics (‘infographics’).

In early 2016, the Council began collaborating with the RMIT School of Media and Communication as a Work Integrated Learning industry partner. All 80 students in the Masters of Communication Design course at RMIT developed data visualisations and infographics based on the Council’s statistics.

In 2016, each of the 80 students produced up to eight images. Many of the images have been used in the Council’s work.

The project was evaluated in the third quarter of 2016, and the collaboration continued in 2017.
