Infographics and Data Visualisations Collaboration with RMIT
The complexity of sentencing can present a barrier to community understanding, but new design and information technologies enhance our ability to effectively communicate complex ideas through data visualisation and educational graphics (‘infographics’).
In early 2016, the Council began collaborating with the RMIT School of Media and Communication as a Work Integrated Learning industry partner. All 80 students in the Masters of Communication Design course at RMIT have been developing data visualisations and infographics based on the Council’s statistics.
In 2016, each of the 80 students produced up to eight images. Many of the images will be used in the Council’s future work.
The project will be evaluated in the third quarter of 2016 with a view to continuing the collaboration in 2017.
