Secondary Offences

In March 2017, the Council began researching ‘secondary offences’. These offences only apply to people who are already involved in the criminal justice system. Such people are required to comply with certain conditions while in the community (for example, while on bail, parole or an order of supervision).

The project examined:

  • the prevalence of secondary offences sentenced in the Magistrates’ Court, the Children’s Court and the higher courts (the Supreme and County Courts)
  • sentencing outcomes for secondary offence charges.

The Council released Secondary Offences in Victoria in September 2017.
