The Council was requested by the then Attorney-General to provide advice on the introduction of baseline sentences. The request for advice related to baseline sentences of imprisonment for ‘serious’ offences as defined in the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic) and ‘significant’ offences as defined in the Sentencing Further Amendment Bill 2010. The Council was requested to report in early 2012.
Baseline Sentencing: Report is the Council's response to this request. The report contains recommendations relating to proposed baseline levels and their practical implementation, and considers the likely effects of a baseline sentencing scheme.
The Council has published all public submissions that it received on baseline sentencing.
