In 2019–20, the Children’s Court of Victoria sentenced 2,769 cases, down 21.4% from 3,523 cases in the previous year. This is the lowest number of cases sentenced in the Children’s Court since 2004–05. The decrease is primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused delays in court proceedings from March 2020 onward.
The number of cases peaked at 10,658 in 2006–07. This is because the court processed large numbers of infringements at that time.
