Online Sentencing Statistics

The Council offers a wide range of online sentencing statistics. You can explore our award-winning SACStat online statistics from Victorian criminal courts. Additionally, you can access our long-running Sentencing Snapshots series.

SACStat is an online database of sentencing statistics for sentences imposed in Victorian criminal courts. SACStat has two modules, one for the higher courts (County and Supreme Courts) and one for the Magistrates’ Court:

  • SACStat – Higher Courts contains data on nearly 200 different offences sentenced in the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria between 1 July 2010 and 30 June 2015
  • SACStat – Magistrates’ Court contains data on nearly 500 different offences sentenced in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria between 1 July 2011 and 30 June 2014.

The Council has prepared two user manuals to assist with SACStat:

Our Frequently Asked Questions aim to help users better understand how SACStat works.

Sentencing Snapshots

Published since 2005, the Sentencing Snapshot series provides data on sentencing practices over a five-year period for 31 offences heard in the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria. Previously, Snapshots covered offences heard in the Magistrates' Court. The Council has since made its Magistrates’ Court sentencing data available on SACStat.

You can explore Sentencing Snapshots using Snapshots by date or Snapshots by offence, or you can browse the complete Sentencing Snapshot series.
