Cases Sentenced in the Higher Courts

The number of cases sentenced in the higher courts of Victoria (the Supreme and County Courts) steadily decreased from 2,058 cases in 2004–05 to 1,721 cases in 2017–18.

These numbers do not include cases that were finalised by:

  • the higher courts as a result of an appeal to either the Court of Appeal or the County Court
  • acquittal or transfer to other court levels
  • the prosecution withdrawing all charges.
