New Sentencing Case Studies Now Available for VCE Legal Studies Teachers

The Council has created three new case studies for its long-standing You Be the Judge kit of teaching materials used by VCE teachers across Victoria.

Based on real-life cases from Victoria, the new case studies cover the offences of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving causing death and theft. Each case study includes:

  • an overview of Victorian sentencing law
  • the legislation and latest sentencing statistics for each offence
  • the facts of each case
  • suggested discussion topics and classroom activities.

Presented as PowerPoint slideshows, the case studies are designed to be delivered in VCE Legal Studies classes. They can also be used for other classes, such as in university courses.

The associated teacher guide provides suggestions on how to use the case studies in the classroom.
