The Children’s Court may dismiss a proven charge against a child without recording a conviction. This is called a dismissal. The court records that the child was found guilty of the offence, but the child faces no further penalty.
An adult court can also order a dismissal when sentencing a young offender (aged under 21) under the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic).
