Annual Report for 2024-25 Published

Our annual report for the 2024-25 financial year has been published.

In February 2025 we released our final report with 12 recommendations to reform the sentencing of occupational health and safety offences in Victoria. The report was the culmination of two years of work by the Council, including extensive statistical analysis, research, community engagement and stakeholder consultations.

In May 2025 we launched significant enhancements to SACStat, our online database of sentencing statistics. New features include maximum penalty information for all offences and dedicated data about how federal offences are sentenced in Victoria, making SACStat the most comprehensive source of publicly available federal sentencing data in the country.

We also updated our various statistical products, delivered numerous educational sessions about sentencing to the community, and published a number of other reports, including a report examining whether court fines had increased in a recent 20-year period to account for inflation, by virtue of annual indexation of penalty unit values. In that report we found that fines had generally not been increasing to account for inflation, resulting in a gradual reduction in the real value of fines imposed over time.
