Emeritus Professor Arie Freiberg AM Announces Retirement from Sentencing Advisory Council

After 18 years as inaugural Chair, Emeritus Professor Arie Freiberg has announced that he will retire from the Sentencing Advisory Council in October. In his role as Chair, Professor Freiberg has overseen the production of over 100 research reports that provided evidence-based advice to government on a wide range of sentencing matters, the delivery of an extensive program of educational products about sentencing for secondary students and the broader community, and the provision of freely available sentencing statistics to courts, lawyers and the general public.

Announcing Professor Freiberg’s retirement earlier today, Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes said: "As inaugural Chair, the expertise Professor Freiberg brought to the Council has been fundamental during its formative years and to delivering meaningful law reform."
