Under the Crimes Act 1958 (Vic), offenders can appeal against:
- their conviction for an offence
- the sentence imposed for an offence.
The Director of Public Prosecutions can appeal against the sentence imposed on an offender.
Sentence Appeals in Victoria examines data on the operation of sentence appeals. It addresses a previous lack of data on sentence appeals brought by offenders and the Crown. It also considers patterns of decision-making in sentence appeal cases heard by the Court of Appeal.
