Our annual report for the 2023–24 financial year has been published.
Our major focus this year has been responding to our terms of reference on the sentencing of occupational health and safety offences. We undertook one of the largest community consultation exercises in our history, and we published both a statistical report and a consultation paper to help stakeholders and the community share their views. Our final report was due to the Attorney-General and Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC by 31 December 2024.
In May 2024, we published a significant law reform report, the product of two years of work, with recommendations to improve sentence deferrals. This work will help make sure that the justice system is best placed to assist people to rehabilitate and not offend in the future.
We also updated our various statistical products, continued to deliver educational sessions on sentencing and sentencing statistics, and published reports on combined orders of imprisonment and community correction orders, diversion in the Magistrates’ Court, and the first report in a new annual series covering 10 years of sentencing data for all Victorian courts.
